British actor Clive Mantle, best known in the U.S. for his role as Lord Greatjon Umber in the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” had part of his ear bitten off during a weekend altercation at a  hotel in the English city of Newcastle.

Mantle, 55, was attacked at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the Newcastle Travelodge, reportedly after asking two loud and rowdy men in the hotel to quiet down, the Daily Mirror reported.

“Even though he is a big guy, they got him on the ground,” said Mantle's agent, Bryn Newton. “One of them bit the top part of his right ear off. It was savage. Fortunately, someone heard the commotion down the corridor and came out to help him and called hotel management”

The separated piece of Mantle's ear was found and sewn back on at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Mantle has been told by doctors that he could lose his ear if it gets infected, effectively ending his career as an actor. He will be seeing a specialist to determine if the resewing was successful.

Police arrested two 32-year-old men from Scotland in connection to the attack. One was been charged with wounding, and will appear before magistrates next month, while the other was released on bail.

Mantle has been forced to cancel appearances in Manchester with his show, “Ladykillers.” A publicist for the play, Laura Myers, noted that Mantle doesn't yet know when he will be able to rejoin the cast.

In the UK, Mantle’s big break came in the ‘80s series “Robin of Sherwood,” where he played Little John. Since then, he has acted in a slew of popular British television shows including “Casualty” and “The Vicar of Dibley.”
